It's a really pleasant trip, from ST. Martin, on a motorized catamaran. The island is an extinct volcano, with topography to mach, top side and continuing under water. I don't believe it has a yard of beach, but there is rain forest, that you can take a tour to. Diving, in the now famous, underwater national park, is very good. There are underwater hot springs, very cool, garden eels, turtles, the usual tropicals in good numbers etc. Don't miss "Diamond Rock", a great dive! On shore a fully operational, and professionally staffed, recompression chamber is available. Let's hope, none of us ever need it, but it's comforting to know, it's there. We dove with SABA DEEP, owned and operated by Mike Mayors. An extremely efficient dive shop. At the same time they are a friendly bunch. Mike is a pleasure to dive with, must be, that he is an SSI platinum diver. We'll all get there, I'm sure. Between dives, lunch is served at Saba Deep upstairs restaurant, prices are reasonable, the food is good. You will find a nice souvenir shop on premises. To be fair, there are other dive operations, on the island, and a number or accommodations, should you wish to stay a week or longer. Packages are available. |
